I am experiencing
-a video problem
-an audio problem
-a video problem
-an audio problem
Some of our modules use MP3 encoding for their audio. This error occurs because DirectX is choosing the wrong codec when trying to decode the MP3 file and this is most likely caused by a previous installation of a codec pack.
When these packs are installed they write some instructions in the registry. These instructions tell the computer to use the new codecs for playing back multimedia files, rather than the pre-installed ones. This mcsetaudio occurs when DirectX tries to use one of these new codecs or associated files to play back the audio.
Sometimes the codecs are present in Start>Settings>Control Panels>Add/Remove Programs, other times not, because they are occasionally put together by hobbyists. You could do a search of your system for "k-lite", "ffdshow" or "matroska" and see if a) they're present or b) they have an uninstaller.
Often the only way to repair this situation is to reinstall Windows.
DirectX - Microsoft's multimedia software that comes with Windows
Codec - a video or audio decoder (compressor/decompressor)
MP3 - a type of audio codec
Codec Pack - Some codecs are free or come pre-installed on a computer, others are commercial. A codec pack is a collection of free and commercial codecs grouped together for, primarily, illegal distribution. This is not always the case! But often you will find a commercial codec or 10 in these packs.

The videos in our programs use the Indeo 3.2 codec. This error occurs for one of two reasons
1. The Indeo codec is not installed
or
2. DirectX is choosing the wrong codec when trying to decode the video and this is most likely caused by a previous installation of a codec pack.
The first step in correcting this problem is to install the Indeo codec on your computer. Please do this in the following way...

1. Download the linked file http://www.musiccoach.com/technical_support/downloads/indeo32fix.zip
2. Unzip it and run the setup.exe file within it. When this has finished installing you'll be prompted to restart. Please do this. For most people the software now works correctly, so try the video in the software and see if the issue is now resolved. If it isn't fixed please do the following.
3. Download and install the latest DirectX. The cleanest way to do this is by going to...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
...then click on the DirectX link in the column on the left, then choose the full installer. It's called the "DirectX 9.0c Redistributable for Software Developers". The normal (as opposed to "full") installer detects which version you have on your computer and only downloads new parts, but it could be an old part that has become corrupt so it is best to get the full version from the link above. It's about 35MB so if you're on dial-up it takes awhile to download... Again, when this has finished installing you'll be prompted to restart. Please do this.

If you still receive the error it is most probably due to a codec pack having been installed on your computer.

Often the only way to repair this situation is to reinstall Windows.
