Intermediate Guitar Lessons
As an intermediate level guitarist you probably have fairly good chord knowledge and can get around the guitar fretboard pretty comfortably. Our Intermediate level modules are designed to give you lots of inspiring things to learn and play, and to take forward your playing level by increasing your knowledge of techniques and styles.
It's easy to lose your way a bit at this level because you may have done many of the things you hoped to achieve when you began playing, but there's still loads you feel you want to play.
These intermediate modules will give you a new lease of guitar
life by providing a path forward, introducing new music, some classic
songs you've probably never attempted, and all the time lifting
your playing level up to new heights
Guitar Songs and Styles has 5 great songs that have been
arranged so that you can flatpick the tune or play the accompaniment
part. If you have a friend who plays they also work well as
duets.
The module isn't just about learning songs though. With each tune you'll learn new techniques and with each accompaniment you'll get to understand more about how to improvise a really good accompaniment.
The arranger and performing artist in this module is Richard Durrant. We are proud Richard agreed to make this contribution because he’s one of the world's most inspirational players. When you watch the videos and play the tracks you’ll learn from him how to turn your intermediate playing into a really professional sounding performance.
The tracks are drawn from Blues, Folk, Country and Bluegrass styles, so in Guitar Songs and Styles there's lots of variety to keep you going. More...
As an intermediate player you've probably had a go at many songs
that you want to play. In Classic Guitar Songs we've
put together a collection of songs that you probably won't have
tried, either because they're difficult to figure out yourself,
or they've needed a bit of tweaking to make them work on one
guitar.
The Black Crowes' She Talks to Angels begins with a brilliant acoustic guitar solo in open E tuning that you'll love to play. Robbie Williams' Angels is another classic that you'll find extremely satisfying to play.
With other tracks by Squeeze, Radiohead, and the Eagles, Classic Guitar Songs is an ideal song-based module for you as an intermediate guitarist. A word of warning though - be prepared for your guitar playing friends saying "Show me how you played that!” More...
If you've been playing a while but struggle to find something
you can perform when people ask you to play something, then
Solo Guitar Performance Pieces is the answer.
The solo pieces all require fingerstyle guitar skills, but if this isn't an area you've covered much in the past then this is a good place to start.
The solos themselves are all well known. We've arranged Danny Boy as a tasty solo, and provided a big orchestral accompaniment if you prefer to play along with a backing track.
Having a few party pieces up your sleeve is always useful as an intermediate player, and with the wonderful video, real audio, and insight into new techniques, we're sure you'll get a lot out of Solo Guitar Performance Pieces. More...
Blues is such a massive area for guitarists that it's sometimes
tricky working out the best way forward. If you're an Intermediate
level player but aren't happy with your Blues playing, Play
Blues Guitar will give you the kick start you're looking
for.
We commissioned Justin Sandercoe, one of the UKs leading guitar talents, to produce 5 tracks based on the styles of Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry and Stevie Ray Vaughan. With each track you can play Blues lead, Blues Rhythm or improvise over the backing tracks. Either way you'll learn loads about the styles, sounds and techniques of these great artists and have a brilliant time cranking up the volume and jammin' with these fantastic tracks.
