Simple Pop Song - Verse, Chorus & Intro
The Verse
Eight bars in length might sound long for the verse but it isn't. We are going to simply repeat a 4 bar phrase. Here are the chords we will use:
| A | / | / | / | | | E | / | / | / | | | G | / | D | / | | | C | / | E | / | | |
To get our 'eight bar verse' we simply repeat the four bar sequence.
Then it looks like this:
| A | / | / | / | | | E | / | / | / | | | G | / | D | / | | | C | / | E | / | | |
| A | / | / | / | | | E | / | / | / | | | G | / | D | / | | | C | / | E | / | | |
The Chorus
A change of key centre for the chorus helps to shift the mood of the song. You can select any key for this change of tonal centre, it's just a case of making the new key fit into the style of the music you are writing.
| F | / | / | / | | | Am | / | Dm | / | | | F | / | / | / | | | C | / | G | / | | |
| Dm | / | F | / | | | C | / | G | / | | | Dm | / | C | / | | | Bb | / | E7 | / | | |
The Intro
For the intro we will simply use the last four chords of our chorus as a means of leading into the song and to prepare the listener for things to come.
| Dm | / | F | / | | | C | / | G | / | | | Dm | / | C | / | | | Bb | / | E7 | / | | |
