Jamming Ammo - Jamming Around Positions
Now try playing your phrases over the riff and improvising, swapping between scale position 1 and 2. You can try the call and response method where guitar 1 plays 8 bar solo in position 1, followed by guitar 2 playing 8 bars solo in position 4. Try to mix up the combinations so that you both come up with new phrases, helping to improve your ear and your ability to imitate new sounds. End by each playing for 16 bars at a time, using both scale positions at once. Learn how to move between both scale shapes and look at developing new phrases that merge the 2 scales.
This example merges from position 4 to position 1 and back again.
