Jamming Ammo - Building up Phrases
By building a good knowledge of phrases in a key, we can draw on past experiences to colour and enhance our playing. Quite often the phrase can be repeated several times in sequence giving a Chuck Berry style of lead playing.
Here are some examples of simple phrases that have been made using the E minor pentatonic scale, based in the first position.

Try playing these phrases over the riff until you are comfortable with the idea. Then go back to the scale and try to create your own.
